MSA Type 1

In an MSA Type 1 a measurement system is evaluated for accuracy and precision. This involves measuring a reference part multiple times by an operator.

Objective:
  • Assessment of the measuring instrument
  • Determination of accuracy
  • Determination of repeatability
  • Compliance with standards
  • Meeting customer requirements
Tips:
  • If the measurement system has good capability, no action is required.
  • If Cgk is smaller than Cg, the measurement system needs to be calibrated (adjusted).
  • Poor repeatability values are more difficult to improve.
  • If the mean of the reference part is correct, the measurement system is accurate.
  • If the measurement results show little variation, the measurement system is precise.
  • At the end of the analysis, the capability indices Cg and Cgk are calculated.
