The Project Charter is the central document of a Lean Six Sigma project. It contains all the essential information needed to initiate the project.
Ask external customers (Voice of the Customer) about their current issues. Additionally, consult with leaders to identify internal problems (Voice of the Business).
For the largest problem, identify the process responsible. Represent the process output in numerical data, such as speed or number of errors.
Define the process with SIPOC under step 2, listing 3–7 activities. Only one change in the process should reduce the outcome and satisfy customers or the business.
Survey employees involved in the process about possible influencing factors in each step that prevent achieving the desired outcome (Y).
The employees from the process who are familiar with the influencing factors form the team. Create a schedule with the team for project work.
The tools of the Define phase are used to create a project order. The order in which the tools are processed is not important.
